This image was introduced for the first time in a 1978 number of the New York magazine, achieving worldwide recognition and becoming one of the most iconic album covers of all time.
But truth is, the “impossible” Grace Jones pose on the cover of her best-of album Island Life, is actually a montage.
French photographer and graphic designer Jean-Paul Goude created the illusion with separate images, cut and reconnected. A technique that would be very present both in his own work, and Grace Jones videos. It was probably 1978’s version of Photoshop.
